Additional Language Arts Resources Fourth Grade

Course Description

Hello and welcome to the RSP (Resource Specialist Program) Language Arts Resource page for Fourth Grade. The attached files are resources for teachers and parents to assist in the academic success of all our students here at Birney.Elementary.
 
The numbers (4_3_3) refer to the grade level, theme number, and selection or story. Here is a brief description of the files:

Comprehension Strategy Cards
is a brief description of the comprehension strategy followed by steps to understand the strategy, written in the first person. This can be utilized by the parent or teacher when assisting a student in a particular strategy.

Cursive Practice is the story summary in a handwriting font style. The student is to first trace a line, then practice writing the line in cursive themselves on the line provided.

Printing Practice
is the story summary in a printing font style the student is to first trace a line, then practice printing the line themselves on the line provided.
 
Fill in the Blanks is the story summary with important words removed. The student is to fill in the missing words that they remember from the story. This should be done after they have read or listened to the story at least three times, but before taking the AR quiz on the story.
 
Fix the Capitals is the story summary with all of the words in lower case. The student is to replace the lower case letters with capital letters where appropriate.
 
Fix the Mistakes is the story summary with deliberate errors. The student will have fun trying to find all of the mistakes and making the story correct. This should be done after they have read or listened to the story at least three times, but before taking the AR quiz on the story.

Fix the Punctuation
is the story summary without any commas or periods. The student is to add commas and periods where appropriate.

Key Vocabulary Cards are flashcards with the key vocabulary words and definitions printed on them. They can either be printed out or read off the screen for additional vocabulary practice.

Selection Summary is the story summary. This can be used as a quick read for parents to familiarize them with their child's current story, or as a good review for the student prior to taking a quiz or test. It is also good to use for reading fluency practice, but keep in mind that the summary is not always written at the same grade level as the story.

Spelling Word Cards are flashcards with the selection spelling words printed on them. The words in italic are review words and the words in bold are challenge words. These words can be either printed out and mixed up or read off the screen as a spelling quiz for the student.

Vocabulary Word Cards are flashcards with all of the selection vocabulary words and definitions printed on them. They can either be printed out or read off the screen for additional vocabulary practice.

Writing Cards are flashcards with the selection writing strategy written in steps in the first person. These cards can be used to guide a student step-by-step through a writing strategy.
