Room 24

Welcome to Room 24! I look forward to working with your children this year as we continue working with the Common Core standards in language arts and math and the Next Generation standards in science. Our focus this year will be on encouraging students to collaborate and communicate with one another, think critically, and get creative. Your children are the leaders and the innovators of tomorrow.

A letter will be coming home on the first day of school that outlines some of our important classroom policies. There are some sections that I ask parents to fill out, so please ask your child for that letter. A copy of that letter is posted on this website, just in case.

Just as I expect students in our classroom to communicate openly with one another, I hope to have open communication with our Room 24 parents as well. Please feel free to contact me through email, text or voice message, or by note at any time. I will do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible. I also encourage parents to check our website frequently. This is where you can find a weekly teacher message, important upcoming dates, homework, helpful links, and even photos of our class in action.

Let's have a great year!

Weekly Message 6/5 - 6/6

Hello Room 24 Students and Parents,
We have two days of 4th grade left. Unbelievable! Monday is a full day (as well as our pizza party). Tuesday is a minimum day, with dismissal at 1:05.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for a wonderful year, and for all of your help and support. Working with this class has been a true pleasure. Here's hoping that you all have a peaceful and relaxing summer break.

Weekly Message 5/29 - 6/2

Hello Room 24 Parents and Students,
On Fun Day, last Friday, a great time was had by all (as evidenced by the photos below). Students competed in races, did some wii dancing, played carnival games, got to jump around in bouncers, and braved the water slide. A special thank you goes out to Mr. Ferrara, who organizes our Fun Day and makes it possible.
We have only six days left of 4th grade. This week we will be focusing on learning as much as we can about the California Gold Rush, presenting our Genius Hour projects, continuing our math review, and working on our 3D printing projects in the Innovation Lab. We will not have any homework this week.
On Thursday we will be having our water balloon activity, so students should come prepared to get soaked and possibly dirty. A change of clothing and a towel are advised. If students wish to donate extra water balloons to be filled, they are welcome to do so. The more we fill, the more we use!
We will also be having a reward party on Friday, as the class has earned another 150 class points and managed to sneak another party in on me. Students still have to choose the type of party they want, so information will be forthcoming. Congrats, Room 24! I know you work hard for those class points!
Important Upcoming Dates:
Monday, 5/29 - Memorial Day holiday (school closed)
Wednesday, 5/31 - Character Counts Day (wear red)/Modified Day
Thursday, 6/1 - water balloon activity
Friday, 6/2 - class points party (TBD)
