Birney's Walk for Sarah and CHOC to be held Friday, May 15th

On Friday, May 15th, Birney students of all ages will take to the playground for a walk-a-thon to raise money to benefit the Children's Hospital of Orange County. The money raised will benefit patients in the hospital's pediatric cancer ward. We walk in memory of Sarah Elizabeth Gomez, the cousin of one of our Student Council members, who lost her battle with cancer at the age of 5. It was Sarah's dream to help other children being treated at CHOC who had to go through what she'd been through.
We also hope to bring awareness to the devastating impact that childhood cancer has on so many families, and the fact that research into treatments for childhood cancers is drastically underfunded, as compared to that for other types of cancer.
Birney's Student Council is challenging every classroom in our school to raise at least $100. Every cent that we raise will go directly to CHOC's Child Life Department. Students still have 2 weeks to gather sponsors. We hope that we can count on your help!
