Last week was a very eventful week! Thank you so much to those of you who attended parent conferences. It was a pleasure to get to know you a bit more and discuss your children's progress with you.

     This week we will be continuing with Write Steps, working on response writing, as well as continuing with reading Shiloh. In math we will begin Chapter 3, in which we delve into multiplication by 2 digits. This is historically one of our more challenging 4th grade math topics, so please encourage your child to hang in there, give it their best, ask questions when they need help, and keep that growth mindset! We will also begin learning about native California tribes, with children researching a tribe together, preparing slide shows about that tribe individually, and then using their slide shows to teach the rest of the class about the tribe they studied. It will be yet another busy and productive week in Room 24.

     Next week, October 23-27, is Red Ribbon Week. Our Birney PTO is sponsoring a classroom door decorating contest. The winning classroom gets an ice cream sundae party. (And we know our class loves ice cream!) The decorations should be student, not teacher, generated. A letter will be coming home this week outlining some of the ideas our class came up with. If every student contributes something creative to our door, it will be sure to be attention grabbing!
