Weekly Message 5/28 - 6/1

Hello Room 24 Students and Parents,
We are quickly nearing the end of the school year...
Our water balloon activity is scheduled for this Tuesday afternoon, so please be sure to bring a towel and wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and dirty. If you have water balloons to donate, they are most welcome. We also have need of a large empty plastic box or bucket in which to store some of our filled balloons. If anyone has such an item that they can donate just for the day, it would be most appreciated. It will be washed out and returned to you.
This Thursday is our Trimester Awards Assembly. It will be held at 10:00 am in the cafeteria. Invitations were sent out last week with the students being honored.
This Friday is our school-wide Fun Day. Students should again bring a towel and wear clothes that can get wet and dirty.
The year is finishing on a very fun note, with a slew of science, art and fun activities. Our class definitely deserves it after a year of working hard!

Weekly Message 5/21 - 5/25

Hello Room 24 Parents and Students,
State testing is finally over! Our class handled testing beautifully, with students taking their time and working hard. They stayed positive, despite the fact that the test was long and grueling. Nice job, Room 24!
Thank you to everyone who donated supplies for our ice cream sundae party. It was quite an amazing spread, and everyone ate their fill. It was a nice way to end a long week of hard work.
This week we will be taking our final math assessment of the year, reviewing math skills learned, learning about life in California after the Gold Rush, continuing our unit on volcanoes, and working on some art projects. It will be a busy week, but a fun one. There will be no homework.
This Friday, May 25th, will be our water balloon activity. Please be sure that your child brings clothing and shoes in which they can get wet and dirty. They might also want to bring a towel and a change of clothes. Donations of water balloons (filled or unfilled) are welcome. The more, the merrier!

Important Upcoming Dates:
Monday, 5/21 - College T-shirt Day
Wednesday, 5/23 - Character Counts Day (wear green for Responsibility)/Modified Day
Friday, 5/25 - Water Balloon Activity
Monday, 5/28 - Memorial Day Holiday (no school)

Weekly Message 5/14 - 5/18

Hello Room 24 Parents and Students,
State testing is this week! Our students will have the chance to show how much they've learned and improved over the course of the school year. Testing will begin with language arts on Tuesday and Wednesday and finish with math on Thursday and Friday. Students will not have homework this week. Their only homework is to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on time every day this week ready to take their time and do their best.
This Friday we will be having a 4th grade-wide ice cream sundae party. I already have bowls, spoons, ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauce, whipped cream, and cherries for our students. Students are welcome to bring any additional toppings that they would like. The only thing we ask is that students do not bring nuts. We do have students at our grade level with nut allergies and would like to be sure that they do not get sick.

Important Upcoming Dates:
Monday, 5/14 - College T-shirt Day
Tuesday, 5/15 - State Testing Begins
Wednesday, 5/16 - Character Counts Day (wear green for Responsibility)/Modified Day
Friday, 5/18 - 4th Grade Ice Cream Sundae Party

Weekly Message 5/7 - 5/11

Hello Room 24 Parents and Students,
Next week we begin state testing. Due to this fact, we will continue with skill review in both language arts and math this week. We will also continue learning about the California Gold Rush and volcanoes in our extra time.
This will be our last week of spelling homework for the school year, as we have reached our final spelling list. We will continue to have math review homework on paper instead of online.
This Thursday students should bring a plain white t-shirt to tie-dye. If possible, please have your child write their name on the collar or tag in the shirt with a black sharpie. Students should also wear clothes that can get dirty, just in case. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's creations!
This Friday our PTO will be sponsoring another Lunch with Someone Special. Family members are welcome to join their students on campus for lunch that day and to check students out after lunch to leave early if they wish to do so.

Important Upcoming Dates:
Monday, 5/7 - College T-shirt Day
Wednesday, 5/9 - Character Counts Day (wear green for Responsibility)/Modified Day
Thursday, 5/10 - T-shirt tie-dying
Friday, 5/11 - Birney Pride Day (wear your Birney shirt or Birney blue)/Lunch with Someone Special
