Hello Room 24 Students and Parents,

     This is our final week before Spring Break. This week we will be finishing the novel Bridge to Terabithia, and we will be watching the movie version on Friday. We will also be wrapping up our unit on fractions and decimals. We've completed the research portion of our mini-PBL and will spend time this week working on our garden.

     There will be no homework this week. Students have earned 150 class points yet again, and they have elected to forgo a party for a week with no homework. Homework will resume after Spring Break.

     This Friday is Lunch with Someone Special. It will be held during our regular lunch period from 12:45-1:30. If you choose to take your child home directly after lunch, you are welcome to do so. Traffic around the school tends to be heavy, so you might want to arrive early.

     I hope that you all have a very peaceful and relaxing Spring Break, and that you enjoy your time with your family.

Hello Room 24 Students and Parents,

     I'd like to extend a sincere thank you to all of our parent chaperones who attended the hike to Debs Park. While they changed the program, and the hike was not as strenuous as anticipated, it was still a beautiful day spent in excellent company. I hope that everyone had a great time. On Monday students will be sent home with passes from the National Park Service. These passes allow students and their families to enter any National Park free of charge as long as the student is a 4th grader.

     Still on the topic of field trips, our trip to the San Gabriel Mission and Olvera Street has been planned for Thursday, April 26th. Some parents have been asking when the money from the fundraiser for our bus is due. It can be sent in at any time over the next couple of weeks. Your support is very much appreciated.

     With only two weeks left before Spring Break, we will be focusing on completing Bridge to Terabithia and completing our unit on fractions. We will also be completing a mini-PBL focused on drawing local wildlife (birds and butterflies) to our school.

Hello Room 24 Parents and Students,

     I still can't get over how fortunate we were to have such good weather throughout the course of our whale watch field trip! Thank you to all of our parent chaperones for braving the stormy weather and keeping such a good eye on our students during the trip.

     This week we will be heading off on another field trip to Debs Park on Thursday for our hike. Our students have been learning about the shrubby woodland ecosystem that we will be hiking through and some of the native plants and animals (especially birds) that we might see during our trip. Please remember to bring a lunch and plenty of water and to wear good walking shoes.

     This week I will also be sending home a fundraiser sheet so that students can try to raise the money needed for a third field trip to the San Gabriel Mission and Olvera Street. Several parents have indicated that they would be willing to take part in a fundraiser to make this trip a reality, for which our students and I are entirely grateful. I have already contacted the San Gabriel Mission, and that field trip should be taking place on Thursday, April 26th.

     We will be continuing with Bridge to Terabithia this week, as well as taking our test on addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers. Students will also continue presenting their whale report slide shows to their classmates.
